Discount Calculator

Calculate sale prices, find what percentage off something is, or reverse-calculate the original price from a discounted price.

Formulas: Sale Price = Original × (1 − %/100)  |  Discount% = ((Original − Sale) ÷ Original) × 100  |  Original = Sale ÷ (1 − %/100)

What is a Discount Calculator?

A discount calculator is a tool that quickly figures out how much money you will save during a sale, or what the final price will be after a percentage drops. Whether you are shopping for a new laptop or running a business and setting up a holiday sale, doing percentage math in your head is difficult. This calculator handles three types of common discount math instantly.

The 3 Ways to Calculate Discounts

Find Sale Price

You know the original price and the % off. You want to see the final price at checkout.

Find Discount %

You know the old price and the new price. You want to know exactly what percentage you saved.

Find Original Price

You bought an item on sale, and you know the discount percentage. You want to figure out what it used to cost.

How to Do Simple Discount Math Manually

If you do not have your phone on you, there is an easy trick for calculating 10% or 20% discounts fast in your head:

  • 1Find 10% by moving the decimal point one place to the left. If a jacket is $45.00, 10% is $4.50.
  • 2Need finding 20%? Just double that 10% number. Double $4.50 is $9.00 off.
  • 3Subtract the discount from the original price. $45.00 minus $9.00 gives a final price of $36.00.

Discount & Sales FAQ

Does this calculator include sales tax?

No, this tool strictly calculates the store discount. You will need to add your local sales tax to the final sale price when checking out.

What does "BOGO" mean?

BOGO stands for "Buy One, Get One". A "BOGO Free" deal is exactly the same as getting a 50% discount on both items, assuming they cost the same amount.

Can a discount be more than 100%?

In normal retail, no. A 100% discount means the item is completely free. If a number goes over 100%, you are technically being paid to take the item.

Is a 20% discount on top of a 30% discount equal to 50% off?

No! This is a common shopping trap. If an item is $100, 30% off makes it $70. Taking another 20% off that $70 makes it $56. So you really got a 44% total discount, not a 50% discount.
